Meeting in Exhibition Square at 10AM, to take photographs on the subject of The Alternative York.
The idea behind this is to take pictures which show aspects of York which people outside of the city might not have seen before (i.e. not just traditional postcard images!!). We plan to be meeting regularly through the day in addition to the 10AM start - although the exact plan will depend upon weather etc.
A contact number for the day will be supplied nearer the event...
Note that there is a 'Latin Festival' centred around El Piano in Swinegate that day, as well as City-Centre Cycle racing (from 5pm).
If you can't make it on the 21st August, please feel free to take photographs on 'alternative York' on other days!
(There is a chance that some of the photographs from this day will appear in Advanced Photographer Magazine)
We begin the 2011-2012 season with an evening open to members and non-members alike. If you'd like to see what sort of thing YPS does, then come along!
Update - Tonight's Presentation:
“Finding the Picture” by Clive Minnitt. An author and professional photographer who has exhibited internationally and also leads tours and workshops for Light & Land, the UK’s foremost photographic holiday company, around the US, the UK and Europe. This presentation will interest all those who have experienced photographer’s block or who are simply seeking inspiration. (D)
To get a flavour of his photography take a look at his website
The evening will still, of course, be free of charge.
This year, we're going to try and get a bit more practical with our photography. To this end there will be Special Interest Groups allowing members to get together and learn (from each other or wherever).
This evening's meeting will present how the committee sees this working, as well as starting the groups...
This week we're planning to do some close-up/macro photography, some still-life and (possibly) some discussion of lighting. So, with that in mind, you might want to bring your camera!
Some of the committee members will be bringing their cameras, macro lenses etc. with the plan of showing pictures directly from the cameras on the projector.
Tonight is the night where some of our club members present their own interests to the club - expect some discussion and (hopefully) an idea of what some of the club members are up to!
(All are welcome - this is not a members' only meeting!)
