Hello once more - for the final time in 2011 (probably!)
Thanks to everyone who came along to the Mince Pie Night, I hope that it was enjoyable for you all (many thanks to those who brought donations, as well as to those who bought those items!).
Hello again - here's a round up of what's coming up on the YPS calendar.
Firstly, we have the Judging of the Colour Print Competition on December 7th, and if the standard of last week's Monochrome Print Competition is anything to go by, then we'll be in for a treat!
On December 14th we have the Mince Pie Night and Club Auction. This night is a chance to raise funds for the club by auctioning off members' old photographic equipment - all proceeds going to the club coffers.
As mentioned at last week's meeting, unfortunately, Giles Farrington has had to resign from his post as Programme Secretary for the Society due to time constraints.
Giles has done a great job of organising this year's schedule of speakers and meetings and I'd like to thank him very much for the effort he put into, what is turning out to be, an interesting and exciting programme of events.
To help with the discussions that we're going to need to have when setting up the Special Interest Groups, I have started a 'Google Group' which will allow us all to have email discussions. If you are interested in the SIGs, please join - if you have a specific interest in mind, then post a message and hopefully groups will start forming!
Firstly, our next meeting (12th October) is a Member's Evening where three of our members are presenting topics which are currently interesting them. The three presenters this week are Charlie Eddington, Chris Jones and John Tuffen. Hopefully there'll be some interesting topics and some discussion too!
Secondly, you may have noticed from the programme that the Colour and Monochrome Print Competitions will soon be upon us (submission date is October 26th). A brief summary of the rules is as follows:
It has been brought to my attention (thanks Charlie!) that this weekend sees the start of Ways Of Looking - a new festival of photography in Bradford which runs throughout October 2011.
The complete programme can be found over on the website, along with further details - there is even a flickr group and an app for your iPhone, iPod or iPad.
Thanks to all of you that endured our trials and tribulations with the laptop last week - we hope that the Special Interest Groups will encourage communication and some exciting projects. We also hope that the PAGB slideshow supplied you with some food for thought.
The regular club meetings are held at The Poppleton Centre and cost £4 for the evening for non-members. Membership costs £40 for the year. For under 18s, these charges are £2.50 and £25 respectively.
